Opting for a ceramic urn

A special urn as a reminder of a deceased loved one

You may be thinking of preserving the ashes of a loved one in an urn. Choosing an urn is very personal and depends on many elements. In this article, we give advice on why a ceramic urn is a good choice.
We would like to apologise in advance for all the (technical) details, which – especially during a difficult period – can be very challenging. However, we think it is very important that you are given as much information as possible about choosing the correct format for the urn.

Advantages of ceramic urns

Urns can be found in all shapes, sizes, colours and materials. The most commonly used materials are ceramic, metal, wood, marble, glass, bronze, copper and steel. Artemis only manufactures and sells ceramic urns.

Frost resistant

are extremely weather resistant and can therefore be placed either indoors or outdoors.

You must make sure that no water can seep into the urn (the inside is not always glazed). That is why we always recommend that you close the urn by gluing the lid (for both indoor and outdoor use).

If you find this distressing or uncomfortable to do, you can leave it to the funeral director or the crematorium. They usually charge a (small) fee for this.

An urn to suit your style

In addition to the material, the shape and the colour also play an important role in making the right choice. Clay is a material that can be moulded and turned into many forms, allowing you to seamlessly match the style of a ceramic urn to your taste, your home or your living environment. You can find more about this in the article: Commemorating a loved one in your own home.

You can also choose an urn that suits the personal style of the deceased and his/her way of life. The shape, colour and material of the urn are then in line with the taste of the beloved deceased.

Feel free to browse through our collection of ceramic urns and take your time to decide which model suits you or the deceased. We offer spherical, cylindrical, conical and jug-shaped urns.

Please note. Because each urn is unique and individually handmade by our ceramists, it is possible that the urn can differ slightly from shape and content from the image and the information shown on the website.

Also suitable for pets

Ceramic urns are the perfect objects in which to keep and cherish the beautiful memories of your beloved cat, dog, guinea pig, rabbit, etc.

Most people who have their pet cremated choose to keep the ashes in a small urn (mini urn or pet urn). The urn containing the ashes of your beloved animal can be placed inside the house, on the terrace or in the garden.

More about this can be found in the article: An urn as a reminder of your pet.

What’s the price of a ceramic urn?

Urns come in many different price ranges. The price depends on, among other things, the shape, the size, the material used, the degree of finish, the shape of the lid, the glaze and the production time.

All Artemis urns are 100% handmade, which, of course, results in a higher cost than, say, urns produced on a conveyor belt.

The cost of a tailor-made, personalised urn is determined in full & detailed consultation with you.

A custom-made ceramic urn

You can buy a urn from stock, but you can also consider having the urn completely custom-made and personalised.

Artemis offers this service. Each custom-made urn is discussed extensively and treated personally. Based on your preferences and wishes, we will work together to look for the perfect urn for your deceased cat.

Do you have any special wishes or do you want a different volume of an existing model? Please feel free to contact us so that we can discuss the possibilities. We are happy to help you!
