Buying an urn online?

What should one look for when buying an urn?

Buying an urn is not an everyday activity and can raise many questions such as "How many ashes can the urn hold?", "Is the urn suitable to be placed outdoors?", "What is a bio-urn?" or "What does an urn cost on average?". Through this article, we want to help you make the right choice.

A warm, personal memory

Maybe you're not quite sure yet what you want to do with the ashes of your loved one. Take some time to think about this. Discuss the possibilities with family or friends. It may be a good idea to choose a suitable urn in advance. Artemis Urns offers a wide selection of various urns that you can easily order online, ranging from special urns for home preservation and ecologically degradable urns for burial or water to stylish small and simple mini urns.

Large and small urns

If you would like to keep the ashes of your deceased loved one in one urn, we recommend choosing an urn with a capacity of at least 3.5 liters. If you prefer to divide the ashes so that several people (children, family, friends) can keep and cherish a portion of the ashes, you may consider dividing the ashes among several small urns or mini-urns.

Different materials

Urns can be purchased in all types, sizes, shapes, colors and materials. The most commonly used materials are ceramic, metal, wood, marble, glass, bronze, copper and steel. All of these materials are suitable for indoor storage.

Are you choosing an outdoor place that was very special to you or to which you have precious memories? Make sure the urn of your choice is suitable for outdoor placement (weather and frost resistant). Most ceramic urns are suitable for placement both indoors and outdoors. This is indicated with each of our urns for sale.

About shapes and colors

In addition to the material, shape and color also play an important role in making your choice. Feel free to browse through our collection and take your time to decide which model suits you or the deceased. We offer spherical, cylindrical, conical as well as pitcher shaped urns.

Today there are many more forms than just the classic urn. We believe it is essential to design urns in such a way that bereaved families are not constantly reminded of their loved one's death but know that he or she is with them. Our collection has grown incrementally from a love of minimalism and matter, characterized by textures and imperfection. It is important to us that our loved ones can be cherished in a serene & stylish way. Because beauty offers comfort.

Keeping an urn at home

If you want to keep the urn at home, you can choose an urn that suits your style, interior or home environment. You can find more about this in the following article: Remembering a loved one in your interior

You may like to choose an urn that fits the personal style of your loved one and his/her way of life. The shape, color and material of the urn are then an extension of your loved one's taste or character.

Placing an urn outside

Are you considering giving your loved one's urn a place outdoors, such as in an urn garden or urn gallery? Or do you cherish the thought of keeping your loved one close to you, such as in your own garden, where you can create a personal memorial space? If you choose this, it is essential to choose materials that can withstand all weather conditions. To help you with this, in our webshop indicated which of the urns are suitable for outdoor use.

Bio urns

Increasingly, people are choosing to be included in nature after their death. Bio urns are specially designed to blend into nature, made of organic materials that allow the ashes to slowly blend into nature. If your loved one had a special connection to a special outdoor spot, or if you yourself harbor the desire to bury or scatter ashes in a special place in nature, feel free to consider a biodegradable urn.

Urn with tea light

The idea of an eternal light in remembrance of a loved one can bring great comfort. Would you like to light a candle at home for the one you miss? If so, you can create a beautiful memorial moment with a tealight urn. There is space in or on the urn for a candle, which you can light at times when you want to pay extra tribute to your loved one. Urns with tea light or candle are available in our online urn store.

Ash processing in the Netherlands

After cremation, there is a legally required period of one month and one day before you can collect the ashes from the crematorium for final disposition. During this time, your loved one's ashes are kept in an ash box, which is temporarily placed in a specially designed niche in the crematorium.
