There is a clear legal framework in both Belgium and the Netherlands. From a pregnancy duration of 26 weeks or 180 days, you are legally obliged in Belgium to have your deceased child buried or cremated. In the Netherlands you are obliged to have your child cremated or buried after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

How much ash is released after cremation of a baby or child?

The average amount of ash released after the cremation of a child is between 200 and 600 ml. Below you will find a table, in which the minimum urn content is displayed based on the body weight of your deceased son or daughter. Please note that this table is based on averages. It is best to contact your funeral director or the crematorium to request the exact amount of ash and determine which urn you wish to choose based on that.
