Natural materials as the foundation for simplicity and beauty
Artemis ceramic urns Artemis crafted from carefully selected clay minerals. These are mixed with water and natural ingredients to form a malleable mass. Depending on the design, the urns are hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel or cast in molds. This gives each piece its own unique character and appearance.
Ceramics and Their Properties
Ceramics is a general term for materials that harden when exposed to heat. We distinguish between two main categories. On the one hand, there is earthenware, which is fired at lower temperatures and therefore remains slightly porous. On the other hand, there is stoneware or porcelain, in which the clay fully sintered at higher temperatures, resulting in a waterproof and highly durable product. We deliberately choose compositions and firing processes that align with the desired aesthetic and the intended use of the urn.
Carefully shaping the clay
During the shaping process, the clay is molded by hand and with the aid of tools into a harmonious, symmetrical form. This artisanal process requires time, precision, and experience, ensuring that each urn possesses a unique balance and character.
After shaping, the urns are left to dry slowly in the open air. They are then fired in the kiln for the first time. During this process, the clay undergoes a structural change: the minerals within it fuse together, making the material hard and durable.
Drying and first baking

Finishing and second baking process
After this initial firing, the urns are finished. Some models are given a refined engobe or glaze, applied by dipping, pouring, or painting. This finishing layer only achieves its final color, depth, and luster during a second firing in the kiln.
Every step is essential to the shape, texture, and subtle color variations that give our urns their distinctive character. This approach underscores that our urns are not mass-produced items, but rather a combination of aesthetics, craftsmanship, and passion.
Back to nature
Although ceramic is a sustainable material in itself, Artemis urns Artemis depending on the chosen composition and firing temperature—can eventually return to their natural origins. Urns fired at lower temperatures remain slightly porous and can gradually break down in the soil, re-entering the natural cycle. The materials used are entirely natural and do not harm the environment.
Ecological innovation
To further reinforce this eco-friendly approach, some urns are made from an innovative blend of clay and recycled paper fibers. This composition ensures that the urn decomposes even more quickly, making it particularly suitable for burial in the ground or for scattering ashes at sea.
A harmony of craftsmanship and vision
In this way, Artemis combines Artemis craftsmanship with a contemporary, respectful approach to nature and the process of saying goodbye.
